Taken from the William Gaston Reynolds Journal
Every person born on this earth creates history along the pathway of life, circumstances do affect our lives to a degree, I am outlining some of the experiences as I remember during my life, 78 years.

In December 1914 tragedy struck our family, as mom developed blood poisoning from an infection in her mouth and her face was swollen almost beyond speaking. Dad had a doctor from St. Francisville, and he advised she be taken to hospital in Baton Rouge, so he, accomplished her on the train, in couple days dad was called as her condition had worsened, the last words she said to me before boarding the train said,” Be good and take care of the little ones."

I made numerous trips from our house to the depot for any word, finally one morning, must have been December 24, 1914, I walked in the depot and the operator had received a wire saying, tell the children their mother passed away last night, have them ready to board number two tonight, burial Haynesville. The operator seeing me, ask that I go out and bring in a bucket of coal for the stove. While I was gone he went over to our house just a short distance with the news to the others, where a neighbor was taking care of the smaller children.
