I became interested in genealogy about 1982. Every year as a small child growing up in California, my parents and I would go back to Texas every summer. My aunts and uncles were very proud of their heritage and I remembered some of the things they told me and showed me - I had one aunt who really went out of her way to take me and show me places in Texas of importance, like the Alamo.
But this did not get me interested in genealogy. It took the labors and love of a man by the name of Allen Alfred Erwin, himself a former cowboy, who wrote a book in 1965 on the life of my great-grand-uncle, John Horton Slaughter, who became nationally known as the sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona and who is credited by historians as the man who cleaned up Tombstone and Cochise County.
After reading the book, which named uncles and aunts I had personally known, I could hardly wait to begin my research. Genealogy research is addictive and I became addicted. I have served as a volunteer at the local LDS Church Family History Library for over 20 years helping others with their family research and have, in the past, taught genealogy classes. I have written 18 books on some of my family lines, all are on microfilm, microfiche, or CD. My latest, "William Slaughter of Prince George and Lunenburg Counties, Virginia, Progenitor of Pioneer Cattlemen of Texas and the Southwest - A History and Genealogy," gives all of the early Webb and Adcock family ancestry, and this website, furnished by a distant cousin of mine, Bob Reynolds, is for those interested in the George Webb family ancestry.
I was born at Loma Linda Hospital in Loma Linda, San Bernardino County, California on July 23, 1930. I attended grade school in Highland, as well as junior high, and graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1948. After high school I enrolled in San Bernardino Valley College, graduating in 1951. I then entered the Army in which I served in the Signal Corps for two years, 1951-53. I was stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia and Camp Polk, Louisiana during the Korean War. I worked as an equipment installer for Western Electric at offices in Riverside and San Diego after returning home from my Army service, then started my own business, Taylor’s TV and Radio Service in Highland.
I married “the girl next door,” Margaret Madelita “Juanita” Goodson, daughter of John David Goodson and Mary Margaret Culp of Highland. We were married at the First Baptist Church of Highland on April 13, 1958. Juanita was born on February 12, 1940 at Longview, Gregg County, Texas. Coincidentally, she is descended from David Goodson, whose sister, Rhoda, was the wife of John Slaughter of Hinds County, Mississippi, whose son was Benjamin Slaughter.
