Descendants of Mary Frances (Polly) Burns

 

 

 

 

This picture was taken at Amity, Arkansas, dated 1914. The girl on the left is my aunt Mary Frances Burns, better known as Polly. My mother was about six or seven when the picture was taken. The family raised Elberta peaches. Murfreesboro, Arkansas, which is South of Amity had the largest peach Orchard in North America, it was called the Highland Peach Orchard. Peaches were shipped north to Chicago on refrigerated cars; the entire area was famous for peach production.

1.  MARY FRANCES (POLLY)7 BURNS  (ROBERT HIRAM6, WILLIAM M.5, HIRAM4, JAMES SR.3, JOHN SR.2, JOHN HENRICH1) was born August 22, 1904 in Emmet, Arkansas, and died December 08, 1989 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  She married JOHN C. WILLIAM February 14, 1921 in Hot Springs, Ar. Garland Co..  He was born March 08, 1888, and died April 07, 1974 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

 Obituary - The Sentinel -Record, Dec. 10, 1989.

        Mary Frances "Polly" Walters, 85, of Hot Springs, died Friday, Dec. 8, at a local hospital.

        She was a retired seamstress.  She and her former husband, John Williams, were the owners of several restaurants in Hot Springs.  She was a member of First Baptist Church.

        Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Jacob "Aleene" King and Mrs. Earl "Ruth" McWherter, both of Hot Springs; a niece, Bonnie Reynolds; and several other nieces and nephews.

        Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hot Springs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Sowell and Harry Woodall officiating.

        Burial will be at Ten Mile Cemetery under the direction of Hot Springs Funeral Home.

        The family will be at the Reed residence, 305 Westwood St.
