Additional info on NEUMON REYNOLDS and LUCY SCARBOROUGH:

Neunom and Lucy Scarborough Reynolds b 1794 and 1796 respectively) , and others of the Methodist Community of Montgomery County, NC emigrated for new land and new beginning , to Alabama. The land was still wild and mostly untamed . Creek Indians , many hostile , inhabited the land , though over 14,000 were to be forced on the Death March, The Trail of Tears and relocation to Oklahoma by the Summer of 1838. In 1830 President Andrew Jackson ignored Chief Justice Marshall's Supreme Court Ruling in order to force Indian Removal. Said Jackson, " Mr Marshal has made his decision now let him enforce it! " Congress passed Jacksons Indian Removal Act Of 1830.

Many Cherokee and Creeks were more civilized than their white neighbors. Warrior Stand was owned by a Creek Chief who obtained government permission to open a Tavern, Inn and Stage Line there as early as 1805. Many of the Cherokee lived in homes and Plantations. They owned slaves. They had their own representative government and constitution, they had developed an Alphabet and had printing presses. None of that mattered when gold was discovered in Ga.. The White Man still considered them savages. Yet Black Slavery was an institution the so called Savages took from ' more civilized whites'.

Many Cherokee and Creek refused to be driven like cattle to Oklahoma . On our Folmar or Volmar side from Germany (1752), Capt Jacob Volmar married a Native American with red hair! Her father was a Trader. She had Spanish blood from the 1400 s. When 8 Spaniards were marooned. The family concealed this by changing her name. Back to the situation in 1835: many Native Americans avoided being forced West by going South to Florida. They were set on by low class whites and were robbed , beaten and slaughtered by these thieves. The result was a lot of hate toward all Whites. Some of these abused Native Americans followed the creeks through Alabama to escape to sanctuary in Florida . This was like running a gauntlet. They were hunted and killed along the way. They robbed and killed for provisions . This did not improve their situation. It was a fight for survival on both sides and the fires of hate had been kindled by injustices and terrible provocations on both sides.

It was against this backdrop that our ancestors came to Alabama. By 1825 there was still 20,000 Creeks in Alabama. The 2nd Creek Indian War was not totally over until March 1837.

Caught in these times, Neunom and family stayed. His father Henry , b1769 and other two sons , John, and Henry Hartwell as well as a host of other family members held tightly to their highly valued hair and headed further West. They found Home in Holly Springs , Mississippi. Old Henry passed away in 1851 on his Plantation in Holly Springs. Neunom died in 1861 and Lucy in 1856. They had 8 children, 3 MDs. Our gggGrandfather James Henry Reynolds was one of these. He was a Civil War Veteran, renown Physician and State Legislator. His plantation in Bullock Co was over 4000 acres. Dr. Wm A Reynolds buried at Warior Stand, Dr. John A Reynolds , Bennet Lee Cemetery near Pea River , Barbour Co.
