Whaley, P. G. - Enlisted May 22, 1862, in Co. D, Capt. Americus V. Rieff,  at Washington Arkansas, Hempstead Co.  Payton Green Whaley was by the age of 22, an overseer on the James and Joseph Smith brothers plantation in Hempstead county Arkansas. P. G. Whaley moved to Brown County Texas and established a grocery and farm near the community of Bangs, Texas. He died on August 23, 1901 and is buried in the Mukewater Cemetery in Brown County. A Confederate Civil War Veteran's Memorial plaque marks his resting place.  Fought in the battle of Cain Hill, Detailed in harness shop at Washington (Nov. 15, 1863)

Peyton Green Whaley  was born February 10, 1833 in Georgia, and died August 23, 1901 in Brown County, Texas. He married (1) Eliza J. Anderson October 17, 1860 in Hempstead, County Arkansas. She was born in Hempstead County, Arkansas. He married (2) Lucinda Catherine Anderson, April 25, 1861 in Hempstead County, Arkansas, daughter of John Anderson and Mary ?. She was born abt. 1841 in Hempstead County, Arkansas, and died 1931 in Mukewater Cemetery Bangs, Texas. Submitted by, Jerry Coffee 1st Lt. Commander, William H. L.
